We Will Not Accept": India, Australia Vow Strict Action Against Temple Vandalism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in extensive discussions with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, today, with the aim of enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two countries in the areas of renewable energy, trade, and defense. During their talks, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the issue of recent incidents involving vandalism of temples in Australia.

"PM Anthony Albanese and I have previously addressed the matter of temple attacks in Australia and the activities of separatist groups. Today, we revisited this issue," stated Prime Minister Modi.

He further conveyed that the Australian Prime Minister had assured him of taking strict measures against those responsible for such acts of vandalism.

"We will not tolerate any actions or ideologies that harm the friendly and cordial ties between India and Australia. PM Albanese has once again assured me today that he will take strong action against such elements in the future," he affirmed.

One notable incident of temple vandalism occurred in Brisbane in March, where the Shree Laxmi Narayan Temple was targeted by pro-Khalistan supporters. This incident marked the fourth act of vandalism against Hindu temples in Australia within a span of two months.

Additionally, on January 16, the Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Carrum Downs, Australia, was defaced with anti-Hindu graffiti. On January 12, the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Mill Park, Australia, was subjected to anti-India and anti-Hindu graffiti. Anti-India slogans were found on the temple walls, as reported by The Australia Today.

Prior to the discussions, PM Modi received a ceremonial guard of honor at Admiralty House in Sydney.
